Sandra Bland grew up on the West Side of Chicago and was one of five sisters in her family. Sandra often publicly shared her passion for fighting against social injustice through her video blog #SandySpeaks. Sandra vowed to utilize her platform and her voice to address societal injustices she felt impacted her community personally but were rarely discussed candidly. She expressed a genuine interest in lending a voice to the next generation regarding police brutality and race politics. In addition to her passion for activism, Sandra also had a love of music. During her time at Willowbrook High School from 2001- 2005, you could find her in the Band playing trombone and performing with the Step team. In honor of her, it’s important that we continue her legacy through education and social change.
